Thumby Aviation, founded by Group Captain (Retd) K.N.G. Nair—a decorated former Indian Air Force fighter pilot with over 13,500 flying hours—has redefined regional air mobility in India. After retiring from the IAF in 1998, Nair ventured into the helicopter services sector, launching King Rotors & Air Charter in 2004, which later evolved into Thumby Aviation. Inspired by the challenges of long-distance travel in India’s remote regions and urban traffic congestion, he initiated affordable government-backed heli-charters in the Northeast and eventually pioneered India’s first scheduled heli-taxi service in Bengaluru. Launched in March 2018, this innovative shuttle connected Electronic City and Kempegowda International Airport in just 12–15 minutes—cutting a typical two to three-hour road journey. Operating Bell 407 helicopters with app-based seat bookings, Thumby has since expanded into VIP charters, pilgrimage routes, air ambulance services, and rooftop heliport development, all while maintaining a zero-debt, innovation-driven growth model shaped by Nair’s decades of aviation expertise.

Chief Executive Officer
CEO of Thumby Aviation Pvt. Ltd., has been the visionary force behind transforming the company from a modest single-helicopter operation into one of India’s foremost urban air mobility pioneers. Armed with an MBA in Sales & Marketing from IIFT and early corporate experience at Colgate-Palmolive, Govind joined his father K.N.G. Nair’s aviation venture as Head of Business Development, where his entrepreneurial instincts quickly took flight. Frustrated by his daily two-hour commute from Bengaluru’s Electronic City to the airport, he envisioned a faster solution—leading to the launch of HeliTaxii in March 2018, Asia’s first intra-city helicopter shuttle. Starting with just one Bell 407, the service offered a 15-minute air hop for around ₹3,500 per seat, gaining rapid traction through app-based bookings and a strong customer-first approach. Known as a “salesperson by heart,” Govind scaled the business by listening, adapting, and innovating. Under his leadership, Thumby Aviation expanded to a fleet of nine helicopters, diversified into pilgrimage routes, joyrides, VIP charters, heli-skiing, and air ambulance services, and partnered with leasing firms to support sustainable, debt-free growth—redefining the future of helicopter travel in India.
AIR CMDE B S KRISHNA KUMAR (KIRTI CHAKRA)
Vice President
Air Commodore B S Krishna Kumar, KC, (retd) is an Indian Air Force veteran Helicopter Pilot and recipient of second highest gallantry award, the Kirti Chakra for his conspicuous act of valour. As the Commanding Officer of 122 Helicopter Flight at Air Force Station Car Nicobar, during the catastrophic 2004 tsunami, he survived the destruction of his own home and a near-death experience, only to take to the skies with speed and alacrity, for search and rescue missions and alongwith his Team, saved over 300 lives. He Commanded Two Helicopter Units and a major Air Base in NE India. He was the Principal Director Helicopter Operations at Air Force HQ, exercising functional control of over 500 helicopters before hanging his uniform after 35 yrs of meritorious Service. Currently, he serves as the Vice President at Thumby Aviation Pvt Ltd. With decades of operational and leadership experience, he brings unmatched expertise in helicopter operations, crisis management, mission execution and HR management —playing a key role in driving Thumby’s strategic growth and operational excellence in Urban Air Mobility and Heli-Services across India.
